2018 Summer Reading Events

June 1, Friday, 3pm: Kick-Off Party. Join us as we discuss upcoming summer reading activities. We will have treats and door prizes, along with examples of some of our crafts.

June 2, Saturday, 10am: LEGO Club. Complete a challenge from our archives or create your own structures using our collection of LEGOs and base plates. You’ll have LEGO kits to put together, as well. We will display the structures in the library until our next LEGO event.

June 5, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Pete the Cat and the Cool Cat Boogie. Rock out with Pete the Cat and use scarves for dance and movement.

June 6, Wednesday, 3pm: Lummi Sticks. You will design your own Lummi sticks with our supplies and learn how to use them. The sticks are used in ceremonies of the Lummi Indians from the Pacific northwest.

June 7, Thursday, 3pm: Can You Do It With Paper? You will have two timed challenges using paper as our medium. Challenges are a surprise. Prizes will be given.

June 8, Friday, 3pm: Rock, Chalk Event. You will use sidewalk chalk to decorate the sidewalks outside of the library. Everyone will leave with some chalk to create designs at home. In case of rain, we will play Bingo inside the library.

June 12, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Drums. Let’s make some noise! You will use everyday items to form a drumming band.

June 13, Wednesday, 3pm: Maker’s Day. You have ideas and we have the STUFF to make your ideas a reality. This is a self-guided program. This year we have a selection of electronics to add to the mix.

June 14, Thusday, 10am: Making Music #1. You will make a harmonica and tambourine. You will also learn a bit about music.

June 14, Thursday, 3pm: Making Music #2. This time you will put together maracas and pan flutes. Combined with the earlier session, we will have a band and play some music.

June 15, Friday, 3pm: Mandala Paintings. Created using a series of dots, this painting style can be relaxing. We supply canvas, paints and dotters. 6th grade and older.

June 19, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – What a Wonderful World. Using this Louis Armstrong song, you will learn about our world and what a great place it can be for all of us.

June 20, Wednesday, 3pm: Movie Day. We will show a recently released movie and provide refreshments to enjoy along with it.

June 21, Thursday 10am: Jingle Bell Bracelets. You can jingle and make lots of music with these fashion accessories.

June 21, Thursday, 3pm: Design Your Own Guitar Wall Decor. We have guitar cutouts and a mix of supplies to decorate your room.

June 22, Friday, 3pm: Guitar Pick Projects. Use our punch for making your guitar picks. No guitar, no problem. We will also have accessories to make using those picks.

June 26, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Punk Farm. A collection of barnyard animals make the most of their musical talents. Join us as we make punk rocks that rock.

June 27, Wednesday, 3pm: XBOX 360 Guitar Hero Competition. We are going old school. Can you shred with the best? We will have brackets to make it fair for everyone and prizes for the winners.

June 28, Thursday, 3pm: Buttons That Rock. Celebrate your favorite dog, person, saying, etc. Bring a photo or art and we will put together button designs you can wear. You can use our computer and color printer to put your content on your buttons. Plus, you will have lots of art to use for your project.

June 29, Friday, 3pm: Patriotic Strawberries. Learn how to create these edible treats to sample here and take home to share. They are coated in white chocolate with sugar sprinkles

June 30, Saturday, 10am: Bingo. Lots of prizes. Need we say more?

July 3, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Dancing with the Dinosaurs. A special dinosaur activity is planned.

July 4, Wednesday: CLOSED for the holiday.

July 5, Thursday, 10am: Rock n Roll Clocks. Make a clock with an old LP record. There are a limited number of supplies for this event, so you may want to register in advance. Ages 6th grade and up.

July 5, Thursday, 3pm: Leather Bracelets. You will use suede lacing and charms to create these fashion accessories.

July 6, Friday, 3pm: Sound Carries – Thunder Tubes. Make amazing sounds with this activity and learn facts about the science of sound.

July 7, Saturday, 10am: LEGO Club. Complete a challenge from our archives or create your own structures using our collection of LEGOs and base plates. You will have LEGO kits to put together, as well. We will display the structures in the library until our next LEGO event.

July 10, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Giraffes Can’t Dance. You will be making music with shakers and other instruments.

July 11, Wednesday, 3pm: Catapults and Stick Explosions. Oh, what you can do with popsicle sticks. You will have target practice using our catapults.

July 12, Thursday, 3pm: Thumb Pianos. More music instruments to add to your band. You will make them and practice a song or two.

July 13, Friday, 3pm: Breakout! Can you solve the mystery before time runs out? Look for hidden clues, working as a team.

July 14, Saturday, 10am: Maker’s Day. You have ideas and we have the STUFF to make your ideas a reality. This is a self-guided program. This year we have a selection of electronics to add to the mix.

July 17, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Ricky, the Rock That Couldn’t Roll and Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site. We will create our own construction site for this storytime.

July 18, Wednesday, 3pm: Creepy Old Books. Learn how to make your own creepy book or journal. The activity is for 6th grade and older.

July 19, Thursday, 3pm: Stop Motion Animation. Learn about free computer programs you can use to make movies and other intricacies of the art. You will leave with your own animation character and, with luck, a short movie of your own.

July 19, Thursday, 3pm: Geodes and Other Rocks. You will explore rocks and break open a geode to take home.

July 20, Friday, 3pm: Rain Sticks. Make this noisemaker unique with our supplies.

July 21, Saturday, 10am: Bingo. Lots of prizes, lots of fun…and donuts!

July 24, Tuesday, 10am: Storytime – Teddy Bear Picnic. Bring your own teddy bear for sharing this storytime. If you don’t have one, we have a few extras.

July 25, Wednesday, 3pm: Game Day. We will pull out the board/card games and have snacks. Join us for a fun time.

July 26, Thursday, 10am: Rock Your Room – Seaside Nightlight. Bring a touch of the ocean into your room with these battery operated lights. Be aware, these will be in a glass jar.

July 26, Thursday, 3pm: Here Comes the Sun. We are capturing the sun with three solar robots and solar ovens for s’mores. If the sun does not cooperate, we will have a movie day instead.

July 27, Friday, 3pm: Summer Wrap Party. Treats, door prizes, and the grand prize drawings at 4pm.
